Your key and your notes stay yours.
Your key, never ours
You bring your own Gemini API key. It stays in your browser and goes straight to Google. Our server never receives it.
No database, no accounts
Study sets, uploads and audio are saved in your browser on your device. There's nothing of yours on our servers.
Open source
Every line of code is public on GitHub, so anyone can check what the app does with your key and your files.
Questions, answered
What does it cost?+
StudyBolt is free and open source. It runs on your own Google Gemini API key, which you can create for free in Google AI Studio. Gemini's free tier covers plenty of studying; if you enable billing, Google bills you directly.
Is my API key safe?+
Your key is kept only in your browser: for the current tab, or on your device if you tick “Remember”. It is sent only to Google's Gemini API, never to StudyBolt's server, and it's never written to a database. The code is open source on GitHub, so you can check this yourself. You can remove the key from the app or delete it in AI Studio at any time.
What can I upload?+
PDFs, Word documents, audio (MP3, M4A, WAV and more), video, images, plain text, and public YouTube links. Recordings can run for hours.
Where is my data stored?+
In your browser, on your device. Files are sent from your browser to the Gemini API for processing, and Google deletes uploaded files after 48 hours. The only thing our server sees is the search keywords the Resources tab uses to check links. Clearing your browser's site data deletes your study sets, and they don't sync between devices.
Does Google use what I upload?+
On Gemini's free tier, Google may use what you send to improve its products, and people may review it. Avoid uploading anything confidential, or enable billing in Google AI Studio, which turns that off.
How accurate are the notes?+
The notes stick closely to your source and include the full transcript for reference, but AI can make mistakes. Double-check anything critical against the original.
